The new house adjoins and extends the gable of the single storey traditional cottages on the street. The roof line kicks up at the south-east facing gable creating a stop to the terrace of houses. The fall along the site is utilised to achieve a one-and-a-half storey house. The whole upper floor is one large living space culminating with the view to Tobermory Bay and the Sound of Mull through 3.5m high glazed doors. The ground floor has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
In 2009 the house was awarded a Gold Medal by the Roses Housing Design Awards for best low cost project and the Chairman’s award for Architecture; it was also awarded a Commendation for a new build private dwelling by the Saltire Housing Design Awards
