The setting for this unique detached dwelling house comprises mature woodland and a pristine coastline bound together into a place of exceptional beauty overlooking one of Scotland’s sea lochs.
The house is a detached dwelling that sits discretely within the land and combines sustainable site specific design within a low impact housing form to create a contemporary family home. A blend of traditional and modern materials have been incorporated to reflect the natural environment. Views are exploited and dark zinc enhances the discreetness of the building amongst the dense tree canopy as viewed from the sea. Local stone clads the lower floor to anchor the building to it’s site.
Minimising environmental impact forms the cornerstone of the development; the house incorporates high standards of insulation and air tightness as well as an air source heat pump for supplementary heating. This approach has also informed the orientation, with the house sited to make use of a southwest aspect to the main living room. Large areas of glazing are predominantly to the south and south west elevations, with more minimal openings to the north.
